Newsletter – ISI Inspection Framework

The Independent Schools Inspectorate Framework has released its proposed school inspection draft for consultation. There are six framework areas to be included that give a much deeper look at what schools offer, how they are managed and how their students are cared for and supported.

Recommended improvements to the inspection put students at the heart of the decision making by actively asking pupils for their viewpoints and ensuring that school inspectors are informed of those views for a clearer picture of the whole learning environment. School leaders will be tasked with promotion of students’ wellbeing, which will play a core role in the inspectors’ evaluations of schools.

As well as checks on schools’ management and governance, the framework will ensure students’ educational needs, training and time away from the classroom will be considered including contributions to society. In addition, students’ social, economic and physical wellbeing, protection from harm and neglect, support of mental health and emotional wellbeing will also be studied.

The inspections will look at a minimum inspection period of three years. The evaluations will report on the main six framework areas and will show schools have either met the expected standards with exceptional implementation and impact or as a cause for concern; reports could potentially show both of these in differing examples to give the most specific feedback possible. These will be published along with the procedures so that parents can see what improvements will be put in place, if needed.
